When I began reading this book I didn't know what to expect; since I couldn't recall having purchased it, but I thought, what the hey, I'll just go for it, see what it's about.So, I was pleasantly surprised to learn even if I didn't recall looking this book over (which I had to have done or I wouldn't have bought it) that it was well worth the time and money. I'm very picky about which books I read & purchase. I won't just have any author or subject on my device. Call me a book snob, I don't care, but to those authors who do make the cut, like Casey Clair, then a good review is sure to follow. (Sometimes my reviews are not "good" but this was so good, I couldn't stop reading.)I was impressed by her ability to not only reveal painful childhood trauma, but to do so with insight and a keen perception; albeit that should come with age and wisdom, but it doesn't always materialize for everyone. It's not a given that a person's life will gain perspective simply via time and age.It takes a rare individual to be able to view their life through a microscope and then to analyze the results and share with strangers. This is a very sobering book about a narcissistic mother and a drug addled father who were both players in Hollywood in the 1950's. If you don't think that neglect and indifference constitute abuse, you need to read this tale. Having two daughters, I could not believe the ice cold selfishness of these "parents". It makes you wish that you could go back in time and raise these beautiful children yourself..
